Kohima Commemoration Service:  Dean’s Park, York Minster,

Thursday 2nd July  2026 11.00am.

We will be gathering once again in Dean’s Park to commemorate the battle of Kohima on Thursday 2nd July at 11.00am.

For those of you who have not attended before, it is a marvellous occasion when families and friends gather in front of the 2nd Division memorial, a replica of the one that stands in Kohima, to remember those ‘who did not come home’ and to meet other like-minded people whose fathers and grandfathers were involved in the Burma Campaign. We are honoured to be hosted by Canon James Milne who will lead the service and we are always treated to a wonderful military band and pipes.

We are delighted to welcome this year the Deputy Chaplain General,  Reverend Antony Feltham-White who will give the Address.

The service is followed by a two-course lunch in Imphal Barracks after which the Kohima Museum will be open for all to visit. Parking is provided in the barracks where coaches will take us to and from the Minster. There will be coffee served at the barracks from 9.00 am before boarding the coaches which will depart at 10.00 am. We are as always extremely grateful to 2nd Signal Regiment for making these arrangements possible.

Tickets for the lunch are £35 which includes morning coffee, parking at the barracks and the coach journey to the Minster and back. Should you wish to use the coach service but not stay for lunch the cost of the coach is £7 per person.

Burma 1944: Ordinary People at War - A talk by Dr Robert Lyman MBE

Wednesday 1st July 6.30 for 7.00pm

On the evening prior to the service, we warmly invite you to join us as we commemorate and reflect on the stories of ordinary soldiers and those caught up in the war. Dr Robert Lyman MBE will offer a compelling and distinctive perspective on the battles of the Burma Campaign, exploring key engagements while drawing out the themes that shaped the campaign as a whole.

His talk will be vividly illustrated through the real experiences of the soldiers themselves, bringing history to life in a deeply personal way. These powerful accounts, drawn from the Kohima Educational Trust's Book of Remembrance, will provide a poignant insight into courage, endurance, and sacrifice, ensuring that the voices of those who served are both heard and remembered.

This event will take place on the campus of the University of York on the evening prior to the service. Drinks and canapes will be served afterwards when there will be plenty of time to mingle and to see what is new in the KET store.

Tickets are £25 which will include refreshments.

The booking form can be found below. We will send out your tickets along with more detailed instructions, timings and locations at the beginning of June.

We would be grateful if you can make your bookings by 31st May.
